Elena is a single parent with three children ages 15, 11, and 8. Elena expressed having a challenging time last year, suffering a reduction in her work hours and struggling financially to pay for her rent and expenses. Elena reported she was grateful to a close friend who financially supported her to pay the past rent she owed to her landlord. Elena is slowly repaying the money she borrowed from her friend and is continuing to work to pay for her rent and expenses. Elena was happy and relieved to receive a refund of $9,647. She was eligible for EIC and child tax credit. Elena plans to pay the rest of the money she borrowed from her friend and plans to use the rest of the refund to pay for her rent and expenses.
